Activities on social media have repercussions just like anything else. Some repercussions result in being let go from a job or never getting the job to begin with. It would be a bad idea for an employee to bash their boss on social media. Not only would this action assist in the immediate firing of said employee, it can also deter their chances of being hired again due to their past of lack of loyalty to the working place. 33% of employers stated bad mouthing previous employers were the reason they decided not to hire the applicant.

Employers need to see that their business will not be scrutinized due to an employee’s post on social media. Social media being so huge and easy to spread makes it important for employers to check. Once applicants become employees, they can cause unwanted issues for the company damaging its reputation. As employees, applicants may post embarrassing videos or photos of co-workers, managers, or even the overall boss. More importantly, a company cannot afford to have an employee that may disclose confidential information about the company and have a negative effect on the company overall through their posts on social networking sites (Davis, 2012). To prevent this from happening, employers check potential employees social networking sites, past and current, to be secure that there is no potential risk.
