The responsibility of keeping posts on social networking sites to a somewhat professional level is that of the user. If the user continuously posts inappropriate content on social networking sites, there is a chance that it could come back to haunt them. This comes in to play when employers screen social media posts. Over the years, companies have been incorporating employment screening in the hiring process. Microsoft told the public, “researching students through social networking sites is now fairly typical” (Ebnet, 2012).  Here is a chart explaining some of the bad qualities employers find on social networking sites.

Basically, a bad reputation on social media can have a negative impact on the user’s career. The CareerBuilding survey in 2009 showed results that 35% of employers turned down applicants due to information found on their social media. 49% of employers said they did not hire potential applicants for inappropriate posts and 45% for drinking and use of drugs.
